Is fur still in fashion?

Furs are a particularly valuable item of clothing and have been considered a must-have for high-class women for many years. Each fur is made with real fur, which can be long or short and create a one-of-a-kind item of clothing. Animal furs can in fact have hair of different lengths depending on the species from which the fur is taken.

Why fur is so popular

Fur coats are a symbol of luxury and quality and it is no coincidence that they have been worn by the wealthiest women and those most eager to concretely show off their prestige. However, over the last few years the prices of real furs have undergone a significant reduction and many models of this item of clothing have become accessible to a large number of women. Today, furs are extended using parts of cotton and fabric: this is how their purchase price decreases, allowing the creation of a product made up largely (but not entirely) of real fur. For this reason too, old furs have a higher value than most furs made today. But are furs still in fashion? The question is legitimate if you think about the recent environmental and animal rights movements that over the last few decades have asserted their opinion throughout the globe in an extremely decisive way. These movements have been able to guide the choices of major brands and exceptional personalities.

Fur is still in fashion

Historically, fur has been worn by men and women since ancient times as a garment to protect against the cold. Initially, fur was worn by the most important personalities and spread mainly among the nobles and the richest. But over the centuries, fur has seen an enormous diffusion in many other social strata, while maintaining its symbolic meaning: fur represents luxury, nobility, elegance. Fur has changed a lot over time, also in relation to the discoveries of different animal species. Throughout all this time it has never gone out of fashion, in fact, the cinema has made it extremely popular since many celebrities wore it in the 50s. Coats, ties, even earrings: there are many items of clothing and accessories that have been made with the skin of the most varied animals. Fur has symbolized wealth, luxury, femininity and prestige for a long time. But in 1970 something began to change when various animal rights movements focused public attention on a very delicate issue: the process that leads to the creation of fur. Many organizations began to organize campaigns against the cruelty of the industries that dealt with the creation of fur. There have been numerous demonstrations that have led to a radical change: many brands in the luxury sector such as Gucci, Chanel, Michael Kors and Prada have decided to no longer use mink, rabbit, fox and other animal fur. But it's not just brands that have decided to say goodbye to this item of clothing: even Queen Elizabeth has given up real fur in favor of eco fur. In 1984, Greenpeace collaborated with the animal rights organization Lynx to launch a very strong slogan that had a notable resonance. The reaction was immediate: the choice to wear fur was considered a questionable (and cruel) act and sales dropped. However, not everyone has decided to give up fur. The Finnish brand Saga Fur is in fact one of the most active in the sector and claims that fur consumers are increasing rapidly. Even emerging designers still choose to use fur and we can say that fur, in a certain sense, has not yet gone out of fashion. This item of clothing remains a symbol of elegance and femininity, whether it is made with real fur or synthetic fur. Find out why Elpidio Loffredo recommends buying a real fur.
