The answer to the question is: it depends. Synthetic fur can, in many cases, be washed in the washing machine, while real fur could get damaged.

Naturally, you will have to set the correct program; in the absence of a specific program for this type of material, choose the most delicate one. Then remember to exclude the spin cycle and to use a suitable detergent.

Washing a real fur in the washing machine

Real furs should never be put in the washing machine; the risk you run is that of ruining them irreparably. Therefore, if you own a mink, rabbit or other animal fur, avoid DIY with aggressive products and turn to a professional; an expert will know how to give it new life without any damage. This way you will be sure to bring home a garment so beautiful that it seems new. If, on the other hand, your real fur is not particularly dirty, you can try to intervene manually at home; there is a way to eliminate dust and give it new life. First you will need to get a fur brush that will need to be passed delicately over the entire fur, following its direction. To eliminate some small stains, in short, you can try using a solution composed of one part water and one part isopropyl alcohol. Put a little of this solution on a soft cloth and pass it over the stain, rubbing delicately. Then let it dry well before putting it back in the closet. As we have seen, each fur requires a different type of treatment. Synthetic fur can therefore in many cases be easily washed in the washing machine. Those made with real fur can be brushed or treated with a delicate solution for the removal of small stains; however, they should never be put in the washing machine.
