Types of fur

Recognizing a certain type of fur is very simple. Understanding the quality of the type of fur is much more difficult. Understanding the quality of a certain type of fur can be simplified by certain factors such as:
  • Certification of the skins
  • Shininess and softness of the fur
The skins are certified when they come from the auction. The main reference auctions in the world are:
  • Kopenhagen Fur - Denmark
  • Saga Furs - Finland
  • Sojuzpushnina - Russia
  • NAFA - North America
All the auctions in question offer selected and farmed skins. The NAFA auction house was born in Canada, precisely in Toronto. It specializes in the sale of farmed skins and wild skins. The wild skins offered by the auction are: Beaver, Coyote, Marten, Wolf, Otter, Lynx, Mink and other types not always present in the auction. The NAFA farmed skins are: mink skins and fox skins. NAFA skins are really beautiful and of excellent quality. All the farmed skins have a very rich and full fur, with the velvet qualities it seems to even touch a satin fabric. The main NAFA labels are:
  • NAFA GOLD
  • NAFA SILVER
  • NAFA BLACK
  • BLACKGLAMA
The blackglama skins were recently purchased by the NAFA Auction house. Blackglama is the oldest brand in fur when we talk about skins. Blackglama minks are truly perfect, the best in fur for a skin of this kind. Kopenhagen Fur was born in Denmark, in Glostroup about twenty minutes from Copenhagen. Kopenhagen Fur is the largest auction house in the world. For years Kopenhagen Fur has invested to improve the already very high conditions of the farms. The Danish auction house offers farmed animals such as minks, foxes, chinchillas and swakara. The game skins are mainly seals. Auctions take place 4 times a year. The type of mink offered at the Glostroup auction house is really very wide. There are 4 main labels in the Danish auction house to classify the quality of the various types of fur:
  • Kopenhagen Purple
  • Kopenhagen Platinum
  • Kopenhagen Burgundy
  • Kopenhagen Ivory
The main differences between Danish minks and American minks are the height of the fur and the silkiness. There are also other types of medium/low quality. At Kopenhagen Fur, the best chinchilla and swakara furs in the world are also sold. The chinchillas are mainly: Natural, Black Velvet, Beige, Shadow, Violet, in addition of course to the many mutations. While for the swakara, those from Namibia are sold. Saga Furs is located in Helsinki, Finland. Saga Furs is the auction closest to fashion brands, specializing in the sale of Foxes, Murmasky and Minks. Like Kopenhagen Fur, Saga Furs also offers many different qualities of mink. The main qualities are:
  • Saga Lumi Royal
  • Saga Royal
  • Saga Superior
The skins are divided according to the type of skin, selected by size which is measured from the nose to the base of the tail and finally by color gradation. Obviously here too there are medium-low qualities that are not worth mentioning. A special mention must be made not only for the mink but also for the types of fox skins. Saga Furs offers the largest number of fox skins, the best ever, all with shiny, very soft and often long fur. Sojuzpushnina instead was born in St. Petersburg in Russia. The auction mainly sells wild and farmed sable skins, martens, seals, stoats, Russian lynx, skunks and nutrias. Sable is the most valuable skin in the world of fur for its characteristics that combine warmth, lightness and beautiful natural shades. The sable fur is thick, silky, very full of color, basically brown with some white threads as if they were silver threads.
Depending on the origin, the colors can be more or less dark, ranging from almost Extra Dark to golden yellow called Gold Sable. The most precious are the Barguzinsky and the Yakutsky and the Enisejsky. They are all of Russian origin, which founded the SOBOL brand. The classic color is called “grayed”: a dark brown with slightly white tips. There are other colors such as Taupe, Gold and Cipria.

The colors of the sable are: Brown, Graphite, Titanium and Mother of Pearl. A special mention must be made for the Barguzinsky sables. The Barguzinsky sables have silver tips. The classification of these tips is called Silvery, which goes from 1 to 5. The most valuable type of fur is certainly the Russian sable. Sable fur has always been the richest and most desired by fur lovers.
